Dr.  Mpinane Flory Senekane

I am Dr Mpinane Flory Senekane. I am a senior lecturer in the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Johannesburg, Doornfontein Campus. I pursued my PhD (PhD in Health Sciences: Environmental Health) in February 2020 with the University of Johannesburg and completed in February 2022. My study was on “A critical analysis of the indigenous systems and practices of solid waste management in rural communities of Maseru in Lesotho, and the impact on the environment and human wellbeing towards identifying appropriate control measures”. I studied public administration for both my bachelor’s (2000) and master’s (2003) with the University of the Free State. I joined the Gauteng Department of Health in 2008 where I worked as an Occupational Hygienist as well as Health Care Risk Waste Officer for four (4) years. In 2011, I joined the University of Johannesburg (DFC) on a temporary basis where I worked as a lecturer of Environmental Waste Management for B. Tech students until 2012 September when I was permanently appointed as a lecturer. I have made presentations at national and international levels on solid waste management topics. I have served as a session chair in an international conference, I have publications from accredited journals and conference proceedings respectively. My research niche is solid waste management and my aim to make a difference in destitute communities where waste management is ignored and not considered as a critical issue. I am interested in exploring the world and presenting my research projects on solid waste management
